How To Make a Succesful Powerpoint

Posted: October 8, 2013 in Uncategorized

Microsoft Powerpoint has been one of the most common tools used in middle school/highschool from the last few years. Saying that also means that there has been many very succesful powerpoint presentations, along with some “not so good” presentations.

Here are some tips and tricks to make your powerpoint a succesful one.

The main use of powerpoints, is to make your presentation have that extra “shazam” to it. It is used mostly to match pictures and possibly a little text to what you are actually saying in a presentation.

For example-  Someone who is giving a presentation about a certain sport, and are giving details and facts about this sport, would want to put pictures of this sport to match what you are talking about at the same time.

If your not great at public speaking, powerpoints can boost up the overall mark of a presentation by giving viewers a better explanation of what you are trying to say. How do you make a succesful presentation? As mentioned before, visuals can make your speech that much better. DON’T overuse typing on your powerpoint. Just a few key words are all you need to deliver the message to the audience, and whatever you do, dont just stand there reading off your powerpoint word for word. Make sure you practice your presentation before presenting. Make sure the words that you are saying match up with what is on the powerpoint. If you dont do that, you are only hurting your presentation, not making it better. The best and esiest way to have a good powerpoint is to keep it simple. Don’t over do it so much that the audience has no idea what the message is that you are trying to send across. For the people who really know what they’re doing when it comes to powerpoint presentations, I suggest using nice backgrounds, use affects on your pictures on the slides, and make nice formal fonts so that the audience can really understand what your saying and sometimes it can even grasp their attention more than what a normal presentation would. Always remember to SAVE your presentation, and a good idea is to save it on the computer your using, as well as a USB, because you never know with computers sometimes!

All in all, Powerpoints can be a dealbraker in your presentation. Depending on how you use it it could be the difference of getting a 50% or an 80% on a presentation, or getting hired or getting fired!!! So make sure you use it neatly and effectively to bring the best out of your presentation!

Here is an example of a presentation found online: http://www.authorstream.com/Presentation/ibs09-392058-hockey-sports-facts-ppt-powerpoint/

This powerpoint definitely has a good mix of pros and cons. It is explaining to viewers the past and history of hockey and the things revolving it. The pros with this are the excellent use of transitions and pictures, which really captured my eye. They also had a good font size and colour. The negative with this was that the user put way to much writing on his slides. Instead of using bullet points, the person just wrote a big long paragraph. Other than this negative, i beleive this would be a pretty successful powerpoint to go along with the presentation.
